Independence Day Reflections

As we continue to celebrate the birth of our nation and the sacrifices of those who have fought for our freedoms and Republic since its founding, it is essential to reflect on the core values that have shaped our great nation. I am Michele Reneau, proud Republican candidate for Tennessee House District 27, and I am committed to upholding the principles that have defined the American spirit: Individualism, Resilience, and Patriotism.

America was founded on the idea that every individual has the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. These ideas have launched our nation to unimaginable heights, inspiring innovation, encouraging personal responsibility, and building a society where opportunity abounds for all who seek it. These values are essential to a healthy and prosperous society, values that I hold dear and am committed to protecting.

Freedom is the cornerstone of our nation. It is the bedrock of our Republic. Our freedom has come at a great cost and recognizing our military personnel who have made that sacrifice is important. They sacrifice memories with their families, put their lives on the line, and defend our Republic selflessly. From the Revolutionary War to the War on Terrorism, those who have shed blood and serve honorably have my deepest gratitude. As the daughter of a two time Vietnam War Army veteran and the wife of a Navy veteran, I understand the sacrifices our veterans and military members make. Our gratitude should also be given to military spouses and their families who support the service member behind the scenes while waiting for their loved ones to return safely home.

Hard work, resilience, and personal responsibility have propelled generations before us to success. From the birth of our Nation to today, American history is full of success stories of people who overcame hardships through determination and true grit. The best way to reward hard working Americans is by advocating and passing economic policies that spark innovation, support small businesses, and encourage entrepreneurship. A thriving economy is the backbone of our prosperity. This means reducing the tax burden on working families and small businesses, allowing them to keep more of their hard-earned money.

As we continue to celebrate this Fourth of July weekend, we must remember the purpose of this important holiday. The Fourth celebrates the rights and freedoms of our Republic. It celebrates the sacrifices of those who fought for our nation for over 200 years. It's a celebration of our resilience and the tenacity of We the People. It celebrates the hard working Americans that are the bloodline of our economic success. At its core, the Fourth is a celebration of America and love of country.

In closing, I want to thank our men and women in uniform, past and present, and thank their families for their sacrifice. I want to let all the hard working Tennesseans know that I recognize that you and your families are essential for economic success. As a Tennessee Representative, I will work for you to ensure that you are heard and always think of my constituents best interest when serving. We may not always agree, but at the end of the day, we are all Americans looking to pursue happiness. I wish all of you a wonderful holiday weekend. Stay safe and God Bless America!

In freedom,

Michele Reneau
